“Drama Free”

There are a few people in this school... scratch that, everyone in this school, has talked badly about someone at some point. The other day I heard people talking about how this one girl was such a sl** because she "cheated on her boyfriend". I thought this was rude to be talking about because they don't know her side of the story or any background. All they knew was what they had heard from the rumor mill, which I can say from experience is just a web of lies. Sometimes, people should keep their opinions to themselves. I chose not to partake in this conversation because I did not agree with what the were saying.

My swim team has been going through a hard time right now with our coach leaving after six years of coaching on our team. Before we find a replacement we are being coached by the younger kids coach, and some of the swimmers are having a hard time finding respect for her. With the combination of the disappointment over our departing coach and difficulty of adapting and making changes to a new one, some people have expressed it through unkind words directed at her. I have done my best to avoid taking part in these conversations and if I have it has only been to discourage the negative comments and direct in a positive direction.

I really like this card and what it stands for. This is something I've struggled with personally through this year, and it happened on my soccer team. It's really hard to not be a part of something when it's your friends who are talking. You just want to be a part of it and even if you really like that person or don't agree with what your saying you join in anyways. I took that challenge this last week of school. It was hard I'll admit but I haven't joined in on a bad conversation about someone, I just turned and walked away. Which was weird because I knew my friends were probably wondering why. High school is full of drama and talking badly about people but if we all take the time to put ourselves in there shoes we find out that we wouldn't want to be talked about at all. Everyone should try this act of kindness I know it'll make a huge difference in the way you think about people!
