“Strangers Become Friends ”

My boom boom card asked me to "try to meet one new person a day for the week." I really like this card because I am so used to just saying hi to the people that I know. That's probably how it is for most people because were comfortable with the people we know. I decided to meet new people in numerous places during the week. Places I usually go to during the week. I already had people in mind to talk to that I've seen around. First person of the week was Mary, and I always saw her sitting on a bench at Whatcom Community College every time I passed by for my classes. She was always sitting there and I never saw anyone sitting with her. After my class one day I decided to sit by her and just see how she was doing. Probably the best thing about this challenge is seeing how happy they get when you sit and actually talk to them. We started with basics, hi, whats your name? Hows it going? simple things like that. Each time I passed by her I would say hi and ask how she was. She's a really nice person and I don't understand why people don't talk to her. My favorite part of the week that I had this challenge was getting to talk to one girl who goes to my school. She sits away from every one in an area we call sky bridge. I have never been up there to sit and talk with the people up there but I did for this challenge. Regina is probably one of the sweetest people I've met. She really is genuine, but she has a hard time fitting in because she doesn't feel like she fits in with the girls at my school. She's been repeatedly made fun of and bullied for her looks and what she wears. And the people making fun of her are people she was friends with. I just sat by her and talked to her. She is quite talkative. At first she was very shy, but once I made her feel comfortable she opened up. Many people don't know her or her life situations. I didn't ask why she sat alone she told me why because she commented that no one sits with her very often. People don't realize that a little goes a long way, and just by me sitting by her and being friendly made her open up. She's very sweet but has a hard life. I'm glad to know I made her smile. Knowing that just by talking to someone can make a difference makes me want to meet new people every time I'm out and about. I think everyone should do this challenge. It's never a bad thing to meet new people. It doesn't hurt. I loved this challenge and I'm really happy with the people I've made contact with there all amazing.
