“Helping the good cause along...”
While on the commuter rail this morning, the elderly couple behind me asked the conductor if he knew what the best stop was to reach Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The conductor was not sure and since I am familiar with the area, I turned around and let them know that the closest stop was Ruggles. They said that they thought going to Back Bay and taking the Green line was the way to go based on previous feedback, which was also an option.
After about 5 minutes, I turned to them again and said that I thought Ruggles would be their best option and that I would bring them right to the hospital as it was on my way to work. They agreed so when we got off the train, they followed me to the bus and I rode with them. Once we got off at the stop, I showed them where the building was and where they could catch the bus back to Ruggles once they were done. They both shook my hand and thanked me for helping them as they were not expecting anyone to actually make sure they got to their destination. The appreciation felt from this couple truly made my day and I am happy to have been a bright spot in their day. - JA
