“Do a Girl Scout Proud”

My daughter's Brownie Troop leader challenged the girls to make a positive difference in the community. They undertook individual projects of their own design that ranged from trying to get crosswalks installed near a local park, to helping stray cats, to providing and monitoring nesting boxes for native birds. As a troop, they helped beautify our town's downtown area by planting a flower bed in front of a local business.

To inspire others to follow in their footsteps, the girls made their own Boom Boom cards, either representing their community projects or new ideas. As they give me their write-ups I will append them here. Here are our first two installments. Nice work girls!

----------

CW: Tell Someone How You Feel About Them. I got up a little earlier and went down stairs with a card for my mom and was going to make her breakfast. But she heard me so I hid, but she said "Come here" so when I was with her she was crying because of the card I gave here. She loved it.

P.S. The card was hand made

------------

JW: Help An Endangered Species. I wanted to help save an endangered species. I decided to try to use a park near my house to help birds. I presented a speech of how I wanted to use the park to my town and THEY LOVED IT. The Audubon Society suggested we put up nesting boxes for western bluebirds. Me and my mom built a nesting box and got more from the Audubon Society. I went to a meeting to learn about cavity nesting birds and became part of the California Bluebird Recovery Program.
