“Goodbye”

3 people think this is Nice!

When I was younger I used to write stories a lot, and I even won a place in a statewide contest that I was sure I would lose. I loved writing, it was a way for me to express myself, even if other people didn't like my stories.

I got older reaching almost high school age and I began to stop writing. I would abandon my pen and paper to my computer or game system and not realize what I was missing out on.

Then suddenly, in high school, I had an English teacher that brought me back to reality. My teacher would recite poems or stories using voice inflections and sometimes even do a somersault across the floor or fall on their back. I was surprised because I had never had a teacher who expressed emotion portrayed in literary works so....literally.

The papers assigned to us were not just boring old essays, one time we had to write a comic book, another we had to research our favorite poet, and once we had to make an example of album artwork, with a description of each of our favorite songs.

After my first semester I was aroused, I got back in the mood to write, to express myself. My teacher, though, had gotten a better job to teach at a college in a different state, and they were leaving during our break.

I wrote the teacher a letter explaining how they had aroused my sense of self expression and passion for writing again, and how I had them to thank for my oppurtunity to become interested in writing again. I said goodbye, and now I will never see my teacher again, but I will always remember who put me back on track with my passion.

That's great. I love writing, too, and want to be a writer. I think that if I ever find a teacher that is that fun and is that passionate, I would do exactly what you did. Although I am yet to find one.
Keep up the good work!

Wow, what a great story. And I'm sure your teacher was incredibly touched to get that letter. I imagine teachers aren't thanked enough for all they do. I think it's great you took the time to write them, and you never know...you may see that teacher again.

Looking forward to your future Boom Boom! posts.

I'm so glad this post was "featured" what an amazingly thoughtful story. My sister is an English teacher...I'm giving her the link in an email right after I post this comment.

I can only imagine how moved your teacher was, and I agree with Legos. It's really great that you took the time to thank that teacher. Do know that you've made a difference in their lives with that simple yet powerful gesture.

Love these cards. Boom Boom!
