“Well, This Was the Easiest One ”

3 people think this is Nice!

Let me be straight up, I've been writing letters forever. My 5th grade teacher required fountain pens. No whimpy cartridges for us! We're talkin' the real deal here. On her desk she had the biggest bottle of Sheaffer ink ever produced. (They're now collector items.) Another confession, I have 3 fountain pens, buy special stationary and have 5 bottles of ink. Writing letter with a fountain pen is soothing. Lately my letters are to friends, family and strangers who sent their condolences. My mother passed on almost a month ago.

Your description of the fountain pen makes me want to go get one to use again. The slightly scratchy sensation & sound are so unique. Not to mention how it looks on a page.

My condolences to you and yours on your loss. I'm sure your friends and family are extra touched by that unexpected type of handwritten letter. Boom Boom!

Thank you Helene (I'd put the accents in if I knew how) for your kind note. It didn't occur to me that I may have touched the people I wrote by writing with a fountain pen. Good thought. I hope you do get one. Susan Thom is the collector I bought two antique pens from. You can reach her at 1 866 514 7024 or 831 464 1334. It was fascinating to see her collection. She actually goes to a yearly collector's convention!

My mom, who lives out of town, has been visiting me for the last few days. Tonight I decided to read her your post because I thought it was so great and I wanted to share it with her. When I was done, she described to me her own experiences of learning to write with a fountain pen. She even said she had a few that she had saved to give me from her childhood, which was something I didn't know and was happy to hear. This little exchange with my mom made me think about you and the loss of your mother and how difficult it must be. I am so sorry. I love my mom. She is inspiration, laughter and joy to me and, while I know the cycle of life is what it is, I also know that it doesn't make it any easier. Thank you for posting this Boom Boom! It made me stop, appreciate my mother and think about her presence in my life. It also inspired me to let her know how I feel. So, when she goes back home, I am going to play this same card on my mom. I am going to write her a letter and let her know how important she is to me. Thank you for the inspiration.

Dear MB,
Ahhhhh, thank you for your kind and most appreciated comments. I feel humbled to hear that I had a small part in bringing you closer to your mother.

Surprisingly, it's not so difficult. I was able to move Mother in with me the last six months of her life. It was the greatest blessing. We did everything we wanted to do. I said everything I wanted to say. Since she had the beginning stages of dementia, sometimes I'd repeat it the next day. I learned so much. I learned those types of life lessons that cause us to mature and reflect. During her last week or so she'd smile deeply at me and I'd say, "What a beautiful smile!" I'd never seen it before in her 83 years. The day before she passed on, she smiled again and it struck me, that was my daughter's smile, who has my smile.

I just heard about boom boom, and while checking out the website, I came across this feed. Just wanted to let you all know that I'm inspired to start participating in the "movement" due to the beauty and truth I've found in your words. I just thought you'd like to know! How odd that strangers can come together in this way.

Hi Kim!I am so glad you found Boom Boom! Welcome to the Revolution! So glad this thread inspired you join; looking forward to reading the Boom Boom! goodness you post here. And I agree with you, it's pretty cool that the fact that we are "strangers" doesn't stop any of us from offering compassion and understanding to each other. Strangers or not, it's what everyone needs. Thank you for wanting to be a part of it! Boom Boom!

Hello Kim and MB,
I had the same warm fuzzy feeling when I realized I am part of an online group that does what I do naturally at this point in my life.
