“My Son Skylar”

I always write my son and daughter a letter. This is dorky but I have written both at least once annually. I always write at about the time of their birthdays. My son just turned eighteen on Aug. 31 so I wrote him a 4-page letter. I have only let him read the letter once when we were having a serious talk about his poor driving. The letter always contains his accomplishments in the last year, his friends, his likes, etc. But most importantly, it tells him how I feel about him - how much I love him and don't want to live without him. This time, I wrote the letter and I let him read it, the second time ever. He was quiet afterwards, and we didn't discuss it. But if something happens to me today, my son will know exactly what he meant to me. This has always been my purpose. All letters are stored with his keepsakes. He can look back someday and see how I have always felt about him and what he was doing at the time. I never wanted there to be any doubt and since we aren't guaranteed tomorrow, I thought I should put it in writing.

Wow. This is so beautiful. My mom wrote me letters at milestone points in my life too. I have them tucked away and have not re-read them. I think it's time I did. Your children are lucky and it sounds like you are too. Boom Boom!
