“Boo! You've been ghosted...”
We "ghosted" six friends of ours! Never heard of ghosting?
It is simple:
Leave anonymous treats (cookies, candy, Halloween stickers, whatever) on 2 neighbors' doorsteps (near or far) with a cute note and poem telling them to do the same for two other homes. Also include a sign that says, "We've been ghosted" for their door... that way no one gets "ghosted" twice, so that more people will get to experience it. We like to doorbell ditch the house if it isn't dangerous; otherwise you can just leave the treats silently (though this is best done when it is dark out!).
We were ghosted by some neighbors last year, and we passed "ghosting" along to a few more, soon the whole neighborhood had been ghosted! This year we spread the ghosting to a few more neighborhoods. It's very fun to walk down the street and see all of the "We've Been Ghosted" posters on doors! Try it!
The following website has a good version of the "Ghosting" poem:

I LOVE THIS! What a fabulous Halloween tradition and perfect Boom Boom! Wildcard. I can't wait to begin "ghosting" with my kids. A perfect covert act of guerilla goodness. Boom Boom!
we did this last year to several of our children's friends but when asking the parents if their children had enjoyed their "Boo-Treat" we were told "We didn't know who the treat came from so wouldn't let our child eat the treat".
So this year we considered giving a non-edible treat and ended up including a "parental safety" note at the end of the Boo-instructions that said "This treat is from: and then spelled our child's first and last name backwards with no spaces followed by our phone number +area code with no spaces or formatting. And just in case they don't get it, we put an arrow at the end of the string of numbers pointing to the left.
But what fun it is to Boo and hide to watch them answer their door!
My family has been "ghosting" for years. We started with just 4 houses in our neighborhood participating and this year we've noticed (at last count) about 250 houses!! It's been amazing. And for the last few years, we haven't even been the ones to start it. It's awesome to hear everybody talking about what they received when we're out and about.
My 9 year old loves walking around and planning his "attack" on unsuspecting houses. He is quite proud that he hasn't been caught yet. Next year we promised our 3 year old that he could "attack".
