“A hope for Elephants”
Today, Paul McCartney took a break from his London Olympics performance rehearsal for Sunder, a baby elephant who has been beaten and kept in chains. I read a few articles and one in particular asked everyone to take some time out of their day and write to Maharashtra forest minister Patangrao Kadam to use his power to rescue Sunder. And so I did. I wrote a letter and sent it. I felt so proud that I committed and actually did something that I would normally just say, "ehh, I'm sure others will do it, my letter won't make a difference" as that's what I often do.
AND THEN the universe gave me an even bigger opportunity to make this card proud this very same day. As I walked home from dinner with my husband, a scene straight out of a movie---a young girl ran crying across a street and sat in the park in loud sobs. My husband and I instantly looked at each other and I knew I had to go see if she was ok. She wasn't. She had so much going on, so many things a young girl shouldn't be dealing with. We sat for over an hour talking and talking. It was so beautiful. It turns out she doesn't really have anyone that has ever really listened to her and she kept referring to the moment as if God had sent her an angel. Over all, our conversation had so much to do with the troubles she was facing that were bringing her down to a dark, a very dark place. She was drowning and had so much more than one person alone can deal with or carry on her shoulders. With or without the card, I would have stopped to help her, BUT I have to believe that when our intention is clear and sent out into the universe, we get the chances we desire. I guess, in a special way, I spoke up for what is right by helping her realize that she needed to speak up for herself. That she was smart, so witty and so strong. With all that she has been dealing with, she's shown tremendous determination and strength, and that she could start directing it to rebuilding her self.
Stop 1 of this card’s journey.
