“Stick Together”

So my team and I were at basketball practice on a Tuesday afternoon, and my friend Amber and I were each taking our turn sitting out. Amber was a newly acquired friend, so I didn't know her all that well. But when I looked over at her, she was crying. I wasn't sure why; it was a pretty hard practice so I didn't blame her. "What's wrong?" I asked her, the usual question you ask a crying person. "I'm sick. I cry a lot when I'm sick for some reason." So it was nothing major, but she was really embarrased about it, and it wasn't the first time that day, either. So I gave her a hug and told her it would be all right. But when I went home, I couldn't stop thinking about her, and what I could do to make her feel better. So, I wrote her a little note: "No one likes getting sick. I cry, too. Just remember that your team will stick with you through anything." I didn't sign it, and I sealed it in an envelope, along with a pack of gum, her favorite flavor. (Get it? Stick with her? Sticky gum?) The next morning, as I passed the office, I asked them if they would call Amber to the office, and if they could deliver it to her, without mentioning my name. A couple minutes later, she was called...she came into homeroom smiling.
