“A helping hand”

My random act of kindness for the week is to clean my daughter-in-law's kitchen and laundry room tomorrow while she's away for the weekend with my 1-year-old granddaughter. She's a wonderful wife and mom who has been working a lot of overtime lately. I thought letting her come home to a clean house, or at least a clean kitchen and laundry room, would brighten her day. Trust me, I'm not a neat freak, and my house is plenty messy, but I thought it was something nice to do.

So, I went to the local discount store to buy some storage bins laundry baskets. As I entered the store I heard a clerk ask the manager for 50 cents so she could buy lunch. I've seen her in the store before, and by the look of her clothes (sometimes there are holes in them) I knew money was tight.

I did my shopping and as I checked out, I used my debit card and requested $20 in change. She gave it to me and I gave the $20 back to her.

"This is for you," I said.

Obviously she was puzzled.

"Why?" she asked.

I told i just felt like it. She still looked puzzled so i told her it was my good deed for the day.

I left the store smiling.

So it wasn't a restaurant tip, but it was close enough.

And wow, does it feel good.
