Earth Day Trash Trot
The kids decorated trash bags and then walked the neighbourhood searching for trash. They were so excited when they got home because several neighbours stopped to thank them for their trash pick-up and one lady gave them a big bag of Lindor Chocolate eggs to share!

Seed sprout necklaces
We made seed sprout necklaces for my youngest daughter's classmates to help celebrate Earth week at school. We put a moist cotton ball and a bean seed in a small jewelry bag, punched a hole through the bag for air circulation and strung some twine and a few beads on the string then threaded it through the hole tying the packet so it rests at the heart for warmth to help the seed to sprout. Once you see roots and shoots, it is time to transplant. My daughter watched her seed for a good part of the day today waiting for it to start growing!

Give it up for Earth Week
My husband and I have pledged to join our daughter's class in their greening activities for earth week and bring our re-useable mugs with us if we stop for coffee. It actually might result in us saving some money and brewing at home as we seldom have our mugs with us when the coffee craving strikes!

Paper towel pitch
We have been keeping track of how many paper towels we use each week and while we have cut down a lot by using cloth napkins in our lunches and rags for cleaning, we took it one step further and we did not buy any paper towel this week at all and instead we purchased some new cloth napkins to replace the paper napkins we were still using at dinner. With no paper towels in the house at all, we figure we will have to come up with another option and now have a pile of old tea towels and flannel rags in the kitchen for spills.

Daffodil Day
I was picking up a few things at the grocery store and saw the most beautiful Spring Daffodils. I bought three bunches and delivered one to a neighbour who has not been well enough to get out much this Winter and loves his garden--I thought I would bring Spring inside to him--one to a super former teacher who my daughter loves and still writes notes too who had a recent death in her family and one to a good friend who always makes my children feel so welcome in her home. As soon as I got home and unpacked my bags, I set out to deliver my flowers. The first house I left the flowers on the porch and waited around the corner until I thought I heard the door ( I felt like a kid playing hide and seek and hoping not to get caught!), I got caught in the act at the second house but, it was nice to say hello and gave me the chance to ask how my neighbour was feeling and when I delivered my flowers at school, I got a student to deliver them for me to keep it a surprise.
The florist had asked me who the flowers were for when she was ringing them in and when I told her my plans for the daffodils, she said before she left work today, she was going to purchase some flowers and do the same thing for some neighbours on her street.
I will have to play this card again when the kids are home-- they have been waiting to do this one and I hadn't planned on doing this today-- the daffodils just presented themselves and in that moment, I could not resist them!
